This has made the Persian carpets treasured heirlooms that are passed down from one generation to the next one. It is a great inheritance to receive a Persian rug in Iran.
Exporting of Persian carpets began in the 16th century. In 1850 American, German and English firms were established as well as new factories in Mashed, Tabriz and Kerman. With these factories being established the art forms were ensured to be continued to be developed. There were what was called royal factories that were established so that the materials would be of the absolute finest to be manufactured for the wealthy.
Persian carpets have a huge variety in design which is one thing that they are noted for. There is also a tremendous amount of variation on color, size and weave. Each rug that is produced is unique. There are no two Persian rugs that are the same. The weaving technique is usually specific to a geographic area or a nomadic tribe. The materials and dyes that are used are high quality which makes a Persian rug better than others. The rugs are made of high silk or wool. The dye that is used for the richness in color is a vegetable dye that does not run when the rugs are exposed to sunlight or if they are washed.
