Hammocks have been used historically for a variety of reasons. They have been used in ships to conserve space and are used in south and Central America indoors. In other parts of the world hammocks are associated with sitting outside and lazing away the afternoon. However the material used to make hammocks is different depending on your use. Hammocks that are used indoors are generally made of cotton. However cotton is unsuitable for outside hammocks. Outside or in a damp environment cotton will mildew and rot. You just need someplace to hang it. The classic hamock can be strung between two points or on a frame and can hold several people. This hammocks was first designed strictly to be used out of doors. Some hammocks may use different frames, or support stands or you can hang the hammocks between two different points. It is important to make sure that the tension is correct or you may find problems with your hammocks. Make sure you read the directions as all hammocks will have a maximum weight recommendation. If you go above this you may stretch it and it cannot recover.
Hammocks also come with cushions for even more comfort. Hamocks also come in many different colors as nylon can be dyed. Instead of rope you can have a hammocks made of brightly patterned cloth, of quilted fabric, kitted or crocheted fabric or the traditional netting. Hammocks can be for one person or can fit multiple people. There are many different styles of hamocks that include travel hammcks, Venezuelan or Jungle hammockks, Nicaraguan hammocks, spreader-bar hammocks, Mayan hammocks and Brazilian hammocks. The spreader-bar hammocks has a bar at the head and foot making it very easy to use. However this style is not very stable for sleeping.
Mayan and Nicaraguan hammocks are made of a woven net, generally of cotton or nylon string. There support varies and depends on the number of strings and tightness of the weave. Brazilian hammocks are more durable as they are made of cotton fabric. These hammocks are not overly comfortable though the quality differs greatly depending on the maker. Jungle or Venezuelan hammocks are those uses in the navy and on ships. These are called inline hammocks and the person sleeps along the length of the hammock rather then across the hammock. This is a very secure hammock as it can have mosquito nettings, sand fly netting, drip strings and breathable false bottoms. You will not get wet or have an insect bite when sleeping in a jungle hammock.
