Looking For A Wood Or Charcoal Outdoor Fireplace
Posted By Houston Decorator on December 10, 2010
For some people an outdoor fireplace has to use either wood or charcoal. They wouldn’t consider buying a gas fireplace as they don’t believe it provides sufficient heat or the right look for their outdoor space. When deciding on wood or charcoal you also need to decide whether you want a fire pit or a fireplace as sometimes people confuse the two.
An outdoor fireplace may be used for cooking and if that is your intention you need to buy the right shape and some accessories. There are a variety of materials to choose from but the most popular options are stone, stainless steel or concrete. Stone is the most popular as it tends to look better. You can usually find them in a choice of colors so can pick a model that will look good when the sun is shining. People tend to forget that they won’t be using the fireplace all the time yet it will still be part of the backyard.
Pick a model with an adjustable grill as it will make life easier. You will be able to cook better if you can move it up and down. Cleaning is a lot easier when you can remove the grill for washing. Some people believe that a charcoal fire gives the food a better taste than a wood burning one. It comes down to personal preference.
If you have young children you may want to consider buying an enclosed fire or one that comes with a big screen. No matter how often kids are told that fire is dangerous they still find it fascinating so it is best to remove all possible temptation. Some people will avoid buying a wood or charcoal outdoor fireplace until the kids have grown up preferring the safety of a gas one instead.
