Effective Abatement of Wasps

Posted By on September 22, 2010

Wasps feed on other insects and are beneficial to the environment, but they can become a real nuisance in large numbers, and for those who are allergic to wasp stings they present a scary health threat.

Keep wasp populations down by using a professional exterminator to remove wasp colonies inside your home or outdoor aerial nests and ground nests that are near your home or a public place. Destroying individual hives will be absolutely necessary in these cases when the hive itself presents a real threat to humans.

You can leave hives alone that don’t pose a threat while still taking effective steps for area-wide abatement of wasp populations. To keep your yard and the area around your house safe and comfortable, clean up immediately after eating outdoors and don’t leave open containers of sugary beverages or beer sitting outside. Dispose of food refuse in sealed bags and keep outdoor garbage cans tightly closed. Do not leave pet food outdoors; many wasps are drawn to protein food sources, and pet food is highly attractive. If you have fruit trees, clear the ground of rotting fruit. Trap wandering wasps by placing several non-toxic wasp around your property, which have the benefit of drawing wasps toward them and away from the areas where you and your family may be enjoying the outdoors.

Wasps can become pests if they take up residence near your home, but you can put an effective abatement program into place yourself without significant cost or effort. It is worth your time and sanity to keep wasps and pests at bay.
