How To Insulate And Soundproof Sheds For All Seasons

If you go to all the trouble of building a shed, you want to get the maximum amount of use out of it, right?
The best way to do that is by building a wooden shed, then insulating it.
You can get fiberglass batts or rigid board insulation. Fiberglass batts are the cheapest way to go and easy too by just placing the batts between the studs and stapling them in place. With the rigid board insulation, you must take precautions to use the proper coverage of this insulation for fire safety reasons; check your local building code to keep in accordance with the law.
Now there are prefab sections made with insulation sandwiched between wallboard finished on the edges with tongue and groove joints for easy assembly and a snug fit. These can be installed several ways. One is using construction adhesive along the studs and top and bottom plates. Another is to use extra long spikes to go through the increased thickness which is actually more difficult than the adhesive. Before you install this type, you have the option of putting extra insulation between the studs too. This could be more appropriate if the wall construction is made up of two by fours instead of the deeper two by sixes or if your climate is more extreme.
Insulation will help in both hot and cold climates. In the cold, insulation acts to hold the heat in, and in the hot weather, to keep the cooler air-conditioned air inside.
By building a wooden shed, it is easy to insulate it. When you insulate it, you will save extra money towards energy savings for heating or cooling it. You will be able to use your shed comfortably all year round; it will not be like an oven in the summer and a freezer in the winter when you will either freeze or have to wear your winter coat, gloves, and hat inside too. This will make working with equipment such as saws safer; you will not have numb fingers to cause mishaps or gloves to get caught in machinery. Even though folks should gas up equipment outside, many do it inside of their sheds; by insulating your shed you decrease the probability of having the gas can slip out of your hands when your hands are frozen and splashing gas all over your shed.
The insulation may act as somewhat of a factor in soundproofing or you can get special soundproofing panels to use on the walls and ceiling.
This will greatly improve your enjoyment when using your shed especially if you are in a noisy neighborhood; the noise could be from traffic, airplanes, kids, stores, etc. Another reason to soundproof is that you might be using your shed as a music studio; you do not want to bother your neighbors with your loud music. You also might using it as a workshop and the soundproofing keeps the noise of operating your equipment down.
By insulating your shed, you will truly have a shed for all seasons.
