Over the years, many individuals have built their own backyard decks, and every once in a while, one person comes up with an idea to make the deck more efficient, easier to build, and longer lasting. One of those ideas is hidden fasteners. Different kinds of industrial fasteners have various implications. You will need to be very attentive if you are building your own backyard deck.

In order to build a deck nails and screws are required as fasteners. But what do you know about clips, prongs, tracks, and biscuit systems? All these things are necessary to build a safe and secure deck even though they may not be popular as fasteners. The advantages of using industrial fasteners are listed below.

• Reduced Exposure- Have you ever stubbed your toe on a nail or screw walking across your deck? During the shovelling of snow did you ever have to lift the shovel up countless times because it kept getting caught on a nail or screw? It can be so annoying and painful. Protruding fasteners can make your deck look unattractive. Fix a clip to the first board and then attach the second board with the first clip prongs. Protruding nails or screws can be eliminated in this way.
• Quality Industrial Fasteners- Movement- To keep together the deck boards, reduce movements by using prongs and biscuit systems. One thing you must keep in mind though, is the climate in the area you are building the deck in. Deck boards expand and contract in moisture or with changing temperatures in the environment. If the boards are not in an appropriate moisture content environment, they may separate from fasteners.
• Structure- Unless hidden fasteners are used to install each deck board securely to each joist, the deck will most likely be creaky and move. Nailing the boards to each joist will ensure this. One drawback is that this rigidity may shorten the lifespan of your deck because of contraction and expansion. Consider adding additional braces under the deck. This will keep the deck rigid, but still allow it to expand and contract.
• Time- While installing hidden industrial fasteners may take longer than using a nail gun or a screw driver when building your deck, the time it takes pales in comparison to the amount of time you would waste fixing popped nails and screws through the years. Keep this in mind the next time you think taking a short cut with a simple nail would be the easier way to build a deck.
